You’ve saved yourself so much time by not having to piece together info from multiple, random sources on how to use FAM

I’m a Certified FAM & Reproductive Health Educator. I discovered FAM in 2017 when I was googling natural remedies for painful menstrual cramps. I found an article about “Natural Birth Control” and ended up falling down a FAM internet rabbit hole.
Like so many others, I couldn’t believe I didn’t know how my cycles and fertility worked until I was 30 years old! I knew I wanted to share the magic of FAM with others. Cut to three years later and I was officially certified to teach the method.
I love charting my cycles and have been doing it for years now. The initial reason I came to FAM was to prevent pregnancy. But what I wasn’t expecting was the deep connection I cultivated with myself and my cycle through the practice. I love sharing that magic with clients and students from around the world!

The Fertility Awareness Method is user-dependent, meaning that its effectiveness is dependent on YOU - your knowledge of the Method and your decisions to align your behaviour with the Pregnancy Avoidance Behaviours you will learn along your Magic FAM Bus journey.
I wish there were more scientific studies on FAM efficacy than there are; however, FAM has been shown to be up to 99.6% effective in a study by Petra-Frank Hermann. This study attributed the high efficacy to the users receiving a very thorough education on FAM and matching their behavior with their intention to avoid pregnancy.
FAM is often confused with the Rhythm Method but they are completely different! The Rhythm Method assumes that you ovulate on day 14 of your cycle; therefore you avoid unprotected intercourse or use barriers in the days around day 14. However, ovulation can occur much earlier or later than day 14 —- it varies from person to person and from cycle to cycle! It’s no wonder your cousin has six kids if she was using the Rhythm Method. It sounds like she wasn’t ovulating on Day 14!
FAM, on the other hand, is based on your own observations of your signs of fertility that occur in the days around ovulation. When you observe your biomarkers of fertility, you know your ovulation is approaching, no matter which cycle day it is, and can take the necessary precautions to avoid pregnancy.
Yes! One of the great things about FAM is that it’s based on your observations of your signs of fertility, so even if you have irregular cycles you will still be able to observe your biomarkers and chart.
That being said, it may be more challenging to learn charting when you have irregular cycles since most of the books will show you a “typical chart” example. I highly recommend working with a certified instructor who can help you navigate charting with an irregular cycle.
I teach the Cycle Mapping™ symto-thermal method, a secular and inclusive approach. It is a double-check method of cervical fluid (the symptom) and basal body temperature (the thermal). Hence, the name sympto-thermal! I also include the option for student’s to cross-reference a third biomarker, cervical position.
It depends on what type of birth control you are on. If you are on a hormonal birth control that suppresses ovulation, you won’t see any of the signature biomarkers of ovulation. So it doesn’t really make sense to chart until you come off the birth control. If you are on a birth control where you are still ovulating, like the Copper IUD, you may still be able to chart. However, the Copper IUD may still impact what you see in your charts. I recommend coming off your contraception or having a plan to come off before taking this course.
Please email me if you are still on birth control and want to take this course. We can discuss what makes the most sense for your situation.
